The Environmental Leader blog makes some great points about selecting sustainable office furniture. This March 2009 post addresses issues like packaging and renewable materials (along with helpful links to additional eco-friendly advice).
One option that isn’t mentioned is the purchase of used office furniture. San Diego has been making a splash lately with green initiatives like the redesign of the airport. These projects cost a lot of money. However, small businesses can also do their part by paying attention to the “reuse” portion of the “reduce, reuse, recycle” mantra.
Choose Used
When it comes to finding used office furniture, San Diego distributors have no shortage of equipment on offer. Gently worn desks and chairs are routinely discarded or traded in by companies that are redesigning (or downsizing) their current space. For a step up from used furnishings, choose refurbished items that are restored to like-new condition. You won’t even be able to tell the difference – until you see the affordable price.
