Designer Karim Rashid has outdone himself in creativity with the sleek Zero desk for Della Rovere. However, the Italian furniture manufacturer’s imagination really ran wild when it came to assessing a fair market value for this product. There is a 10 grand price tag on each of these futuristic office desks. San Diego business owners won’t be picking up the tab to outfit their employee workstations with furniture that costs as much as a second hand car. Rashid claims that his design inspires productivity – but fails to mention how long it takes to see the ROI on this luxury purchase.
Fortunately, with every innovation comes a cheap knock off. Expect to see this fiberglass creation mimicked by other manufacturers in the near future. In the meantime, if you simply must have oval, single pedestal office desks, check out the attractive Florence Knoll Table Desk for as little as $5,000. Ironically, this surprisingly modern design harks back to the 1960s. If you have a minute, check out Florence Knoll Bassett’s biography for an inspiring story of a woman who changed the world of office architecture.
